I had my 2006 V-6 serviced at 11,425 miles before going on a round trip of approximately 500 miles. I then noticed that the odometer was at 14,948 miles - somehow, it had jumped ahead about 3000 miles. Just prior to this, I noticed that the indicated fuel mileage had been dropping and was down to 23mpg on the highway instead of the normal 29. Will take it to the dealer next week - he says the milage jump is irreversible which leads to the question of what if it had been 50,000 miles instead of 3,000 miles.

The don't believe the mileage is not irreversible. I would think they can change the gauge cluster and program in the new mileage. If you can prove that it jumped 3000 miles (ie: it was physically impossible to go 3000 miles since it was at the dealer) insist that they do something. Call Ford if you have too. However, I am also thinking the dealer would have to be on your side.

Thanks for the response. Your comments echo my thoughts on the matter.
I think replacement of the digital odometer unit/trip info center is the proper solution. I didn't know if anyone else had experienced a problem of this type. I plan to take it to the dealer this week and will post the results.

This may sound overly simplistic, but did you (or your dealer) switch the electronic cluster from english to metric?

Well if my metric conversions are correct 11.4k miles comes out to a little over 18k km. It was worth the suggestion, though.
I had the instrument cluster replaced on my T-Bird (odometer and speedometer weren't funtioning properly) that had 173k miles and the new one wasn't adjusted, it started from zero miles.
It is analog, the Fusion's needless to say, is digital.
Peculiar scenario regarding Vance's situation, and the can of worms with respect to warranties, etc...keep us posted.

wow, i just searched to see if anyone else had a similar problem with odometer jump as myself and found this post. 3000 miles would have made me trip to the very next dealer enroute. There is something to be said for analog in technology because digital seems subject to so many possible electronic errors. I hope this isn't a Ford problem because it could literally render the warranties worthless. Since they have EDR recorders and capabilities to review them, you would think this problem could be accurately pinpointed.
