I know that snyc is unavailable on the 2006 fusions. I have the 6 speaker stock system and am looking to install my amp and subwoofer from my old car. the only way to make this possible is with a better head unit that has the connections. I also want something that appears stock. And so i was wondering sine ford lincoln mercury are all the same if this could be possible?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure on the time element but Ford is developing adaptor harnesses to retrofit the SYNC systems into newer models. When I find out more I will advise. I am going to consider it as the cell phone law goes into affect very soon in CA.

the "proper connections" would be RCA pre-amp outputs, and AFAIK no Ford stock radio has them. the stock Ford systems that I have seen with stock amplifiers use factory wiring harness (not RCA cables) to connect the amps. (I'm not sure however, if the harnesses are line-level or speaker-level).

but regardless, RCA pre-amp outputs are NOT required to be on the head unit anyways. you can hook your amp/subs up to any radio (including your stock CD6 radio). you have a few options to hook up your amp to your stock radio (#1 and #2 are the cheap options, #3 and #4 are the best options Wink):

1.) if your amp has speaker-level / high-level inputs, then you can connect those wires directly to your stock speaker wires.

2.) if your amp does not have speaker-level inputs, then you'll need a line-output-converter (LOC) to change the speaker outputs to pre-amp RCA outputs.

NOTE: while both of those options will work, neither is ideal. the stock radios reduce the bass output as you turn the volume up (they do this to protect the factory speakers and to compensate for the underpowered internal amplifiers). if you connect an amp directly to the stock speaker outputs then your subwoofer's output will decrease as you increase the master volume, leading to unbalanced sound. if your amp has a remote bass control then you can manually raise/lower the sub output independently from the radio so it will not be as much of a problem.

3.) buy a bass-restoration module (BRM) or factory sound processor (FSP). if you're going to run any stock Ford radio then I would highly recommend this option. a BRM like the MTX re-Q will monitor and automatically correct the bass output to keep it consistent/balanced with the master volume.

4.) buy an aftermarket head unit. there are plenty of double-DIN headunits that fit nicely in the Fusion's stock radio opening to retain a semi-stock look. a good aftermarket radio will significantly improve sound quality, as well as have the "proper connections" (RCA pre-amp outputs)

whatever you decide... good luck Smile

Hi, I would forget installing another stock ford headunit. This weekend I installed a Kenwood DNX-8120 w/bluetooth, voice navigation, and sirius radio. I havent replaced the stock speakers yet, and I have to say, it sounds amazing, tons of powerful volume, even placed a call on the microphone on the radio thru my cellphone and bluetooth. I havent figured out the whole system yet, and havent installed a sub yet, but after hearing this unit, I want to take my original radio and smash it with a sledgehammer...lol.

yes the factory headunit out of the lincoln fits in the fusion because my friend has it in her milan. its a pain in the you know what to install without a ford mechanic (might even be impossible). to install the lincoln headunit in your car you need some code from ford to register it to your car, and its not something ford will just give you. on the plus side you're gonna get way better sound out of it if you can pull it off (especially if it a thx headunit). i still think it would be far easier for you to go aftermarket though but good luck!

That is great news, I have a 2007 SEL and Sync is the only thing that I'm missing. Please, let us know as soon as you find it out.

you do not need any code to install a lincoln radio in a Ford, it is just plug and play. I have one installed and it is awesome sounding, better than any aftermarket. it also has the hook up for an amp. Really easy to install, its only difficult to make it look right in the car.

I would love to see a photograph from your Fusion with the Kenwood stereo installed. Can you please take a photograph and post it to see how does it look in the fusion?

Thanks,
